- Kiymoi Fukui is a Japanese – American artist that has high interest in Printmaking, scultpuring, as well as in fiber arts. She has earned her BFA in Fine Arts from La Sierra University, as well as her MFA in Printmaking from CSULB. Her artwork mostly consists of plants, sculpturing such as origami and making sculptures using alive plants.
2. For this artist conversation, by observing most of her artwork, it is mostly made of photography, plants, creating sculptures using alive plants as well as having tea. The minor part of tea was to dye the tea into the color into any color that they desire. There was little to no paint involved. It mostly involved plants, photography, some origami (paper birds) as well as tea. Most of her artwork consists of straight lines and curved lines. Most of her artwork’s color is vivid primary colors. The is the main concept that she was tying to point out; however, there is only one picture under the Prints tab that is in all black and white.
3. To my understanding, the author is showing her work of art in the way that she is showing her interests as a way to oppose depression during COVID – 19. The way that she copes with COVID – 19 is to grow as many plants as possible, do some origami as well as to make sculptures using alive plants. These activities are meant to be alternative to going out to the streets having fun as well as meeting family and relatives in person. Knowing that most of current students has lost motivation towards school, it is significantly harder for Kiyomi to reach out to her students. Those factors that lead into why students are harder to reach out to Kiyomi is because they completely lost motivation towards school in a way that they are trying their best to focus towards finishing the remaining of the semester but is in a distracted environment, one of their family members or friends is worried that one member of their family gets the coronavirus, thus leading into being more scared of the coronavirus, as well as doing their best to push through by studying for finals and last assignments for other classes.
4. What this means to me is that there are ways to find motivation towards rushed online classes (last minute format change) due to COVID – 19. Kiyomi’s way of finding entertainment safely during COVID – 19 are very interesting to do during a pandemic. Origami, being the easiest way to entertain ourselves during the pandemic by having paper lying around old notebooks that we do not use or any paper that we have at home, as well as looking online for find tutorials for orgimai or download the pdf of origami book and read it off of there. Also, I may want to consider to growing a new tree. The way that I cope with the lost of motivation towards the rest of the semester was to watch some Netflix, bake things, minimize distractions towards school as well as to ride my bike as much as possible to relieve the stress from other classes. Yes, my life resonates with the COVID – 19 situation is because no one is able to go out to hang out with friends, family, and relieves as well as for those who try to workout at gyms are unable to workout because they closed. Despite the situation, I am hoping that professors are more lenient for this grading scale such as curving the class, shortening the term projects, as well as to have open book and open notes during exams.
