- Masha Soroudi is an Iranian independent curator and an artist that as a former undergraduate student that did not attend CSULB. By the way, She attended Azad University under Azad Art and Architecture. One of her interests were to move to other countries to see how life is different compared to Iran. She has the following works that should be viewed by viewers, The expected, Clio, Inner Fragments, Nature’s Cadence, and 7500 miles. The most interesting piece of art to me is Nature’s Cadence.
2. Based on her work that was posted on her own social media website, I can tell that she wants to explain the times that she has been through depression, and according to the video from Youtube, she explicitly states that “there is a lot of conflicting ideas and feelings that people might have in specific situations”. Even though she had neutral feelings about the Iranian Revolution, it turned out for her family, it was not a great feeling because her mom was working and there are new political changes that apply to work as well as outside of work. Also, the way that her family is coping with the situation is to have illegal items such as international video tapes, satellite dishes to see trending news around the world, implying that Iran had very strict or low internet access. In addition to possibly country political rules, if someone leaves the country, then that person who left may not able to return to visit their respective families. According to one of pieces of art named “The Unexpected” under Photography, I know that there is no caption at all and every photo is in black and white, so I am going to guess that the photos could symbolize depression, and gloominess. The lines are straight because the photos were taken via photography and then edited to appear as black and white. The photos were taken at a good angle where I can see the photos as how it was originally took.
3. According to the plants that was showed on Youtube, she explains the experience of how plantation of every country is different from Iran. Also, when she first left Iran and moved to Malaysia, and eventually the United States, she stated that when she first took a footstep outside her home country, she immediately felt isolated as being feeling depressed. In order for her to feel better, she needs to find time to appreciate her plants. According to her actions to plants, she was explaining how plants are important just like a person. Also, the key thing to plants is that it needs enough water in order to survive. Even though someone may forget to water the plants daily, the plant overall may still survive; however, the plant can still grow abnormally such as the plant not able to grow not as much leaves compared to how many leaves it can actually grow. Also, the advantage is that the plant is doing its best to grow new roots in the new environment. All in all, this can relate to you get what you put in type of scenario. For example, playing piano may be very difficult for beginners at first knowing that there is many keys and notes that can play simultaneously. Similarly, if she takes the time and commits to herself that she needs to try her best not to forget to water her plants, then it is better for the plant to grow and adapt into their new environment.
4. What the contents to me really means is that as of right now, I am feeling gloomy as well as feeling depressed. As the COVID – 19 crisis is still under our plate, it is a very big factor in regards to why essential goods are running low on inventory. Due to COVID – 19, another factor is that it was the cause and the effect was that every place that had a large gathering, regardless of being public or private, the law required the emphasis of social distancing, thus closing almost every store except for grocery stores and fast food restaurants. Also, it was noticed that the schools were not prepared for this situation like this to appear, especially two students at CSULB are tested positive. Also, the university did not give enough time to have the students, faculty, staff, and advising services to fully prepare for transitioning from face – to – face classes to online classes. Giving staff, and faculty only a week to prepare how to use zoom for online classes and for their incoming assignments is definitely not enough time, especially considering how many people are in a particular class, how to lecture, and how to hold office hours. Just like Mahsha Soroudi learned that she needed to take some time and have the ability to cope with any situation, If I am able to apply the same learning concepts just like Mahsa Soroudi, then I am able to overcome the fear of getting distracted instead of being at an online class. All in all, even though I feel the same way as Masha Soroudi due to COVID – 19, I will do my best to cope with the current situation as well as to do well mentally and physically.
