- Here are some photos of myself doing the activity.
2. What I ended up doing as a last resort for the activity was to study at the library. In the meantime, I asked a random group of students that studying as a group the following questions: “1) What do you think my name is?” “2) What do you think my major is?”.
3) Unfortunately, there was no with me while I was doing the activity.
4) Yet, their reactions was that they thought my name was Micheal. They assumed that I was a communication major by the way I dressed. The reason why I looked like a student that was majoring in communication major was because I was wearing the North Face hat and seemed like I fit in with students that are majoring in communication. Also, I asked a different student within the group what my major was and assumed that I was a journalism major just by my appearance.
5) However, my actual name is Daniel and my actual major is Computer Science. It is indeed that Computer Science is a very frustrating major as well as the courses are very difficult. Right after I told my name and introduced the group of students, then I suddenly started reading a little bit about Heap Sort, what it is, the way it works, as well as knowing that Heap Sort is very similar to selection sort which is to keep finding the current element and then directly swapping positions with them until the array is sorted; however, knowing that it is based on the Binary Heap Data Structure. The way that Heap Sort works is that it gets all the elements and sorts them into a Heap (a tree).
6) All in all, it was a great experience. At least, I got an idea of how people think of me versus what I really am. Also, it was a fun activity where I can go to where many people are at. In this case, it’s in CSULB Library at the 5th floor, where there is a lots of group studying. At the end of the day, I was able to find one group of where I can ask people to guess my name and major by looking at my appearance. In reality, my appearance was able to trick a lot of people thinking that I am a journalism or a communication major; however, I am actually a student that is majoring in Computer Science. I was glad that this activity was able to trick many people thinking that I am a Liberal Arts major.
